The Department of Alcohol & Drug Services embraces research that shows substance abuse disorders are prevalent across all boundaries regardless of age, socio-economic status, gender, and race demographics, and occur along a range of severity from misuse to addiction. DADS pro vides a comprehensive managed system of care tailored to each person’s needs – from prevention to early intervention to treatment to recovery to recovery monitoring.

The Mental Health Department provides a safety net for county residents whose lives have been or are in danger of being affected by a serious mental illness. The department coordinates and administers the community's mental health resources to ensure that those who are living with a mental illness can get the care they need.

Keeping the community safe and healthy is a team effort, and it starts with prevention. The Public Health Department works with a number of community organizations to reduce traffic accidents, curb youth violence, advocate for improved nutrition & increased physical activity, and to help people quit smoking. These programs and other work conducted by the department help to save and improve lives.

The Valley Medical Center Foundation is a dedicated to raising funds, resources and public awareness for Santa Clara Valley Health & Hospital System and Santa Clara Valley Medical Center. The VMC Foundation generates financial and community support vital to the programs that benefit the health and welfare of patients at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and residents of our community, including assisting in the care and treatment of burn victims, premature babies, patients with spinal cord injuries, sexually abused children, victims of domestic violence, low-income children and families. Valley Health Plan (VHP) is a health maintenance organization (HMO) that is owned and operated by the County of Santa Clara. VHP is not offered to the general public but to the following groups:

  • County of Santa Clara employees and retirees
  • Council On Aging employees
  • In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) Independent Providers
  • Santa Clara County Open Space Authority employees
  • Valley Medical Center Foundation employees
  • Valley Transportation Authority employees and retirees
