The exact cause of Type 1 diabetes is not known, but because of new genetic and antibody tests, researchers can predict who is at risk for developing the disease. On March 11, 2009, the Diabetes Center at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center (SCVMC) and the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley officially launched a new program to serve the legal needs of low-income residents who live with diabetes.
