Since children need to be treated differently than adults, the Trauma Center specializes in providing services that cater to the needs of children. Pediatric Trauma Services use technology and equipment that is designed just for children. This includes specially sized equipment, supplies and instruments. Most importantly, pharmaceutical and anesthetic services meet the specific needs of pediatric patients.
The Trauma Center staff can call on a wide variety of pediatric specialists to assist with pediatric patients. Specialists are available in the following areas:
- Anesthesiology
- Intensive Care
- Nursing
- Orthopedic Surgery
- Pediatric Surgery
- Pharmacy Services
- Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation
- Social Services
- Therapeutic Services
- Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation
- Urology
Once pediatric patients have been stabilized in the Trauma Center, they are typically moved to the hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). The PICU has been accredited as a California Children's Services Center.
