About the Department of Pediatrics

Our department of pediatrics is a busy practice comprised of 7 clinics in the south Bay Area. We are a key training site for the Stanford pediatric residents and work closely with our pediatric specialists and in-patient team to provide the best medical home for our patients. Physicians who join our department enjoy a collegial work environment, satisfaction working with the underserved and timely collaboration with colleagues via our integrated EMR (Epic).

About the Position

The responsibilities of the Medical Director of the Center for Child Protection include clinical, administrative, and systems development roles. While all pediatricians are advocates for children, this individual will be viewed throughout Santa Clara County as the physician leader in child advocacy of the Santa Clara County Health and Hospital System. BE/BC in child abuse preferred. Commensurate, current clinical experience in the practice of child abuse pediatrics is acceptable.

Skills required include: clinical expertise in the forensic evaluations of children who may have been victims of sexual or physical abuse and neglect; awareness of the impact of trauma on the emotional and psychological well-being of children; knowledge of the relationship of various systems of care impacting the welfare of children; and the ability to collaborate with other leaders and organizations to improve the integration of services for vulnerable children.

A. Clinical Responsibilities:

  • 1. Center for Child Protection: forensic evaluations for child sexual abuse and child physical abuse; administrative supervision of CCP programs; clinical supervision of all written reports and culposcopic photographs obtained by Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Clinical hours and call schedule to be determined.
  • 2. SPARK Clinic: administrative and clinical supervision of the SPARK Clinic, the medical home for children in foster care in Santa Clara County.
  • 3. Youth Clinic: participate in administration of transitional age youth clinic, serving teens and young adults who were previously in foster care or the juvenile justice system—and other high risk youth.

B. Administrative Responsibilities:

  • 1. Support collaborative efforts to establish a Child Advocacy Center in Santa Clara County.
  • 2. Chair SCVMC’s Child Abuse Prevention Committee, an internal to SCVMC cross-disciplinary team that evaluates quality of abuse evaluations across SCVHHS, and supports educational efforts.
  • 3. Supervise maintenance of data base re: child physical and sexual abuse evaluations.
  • 4. Provide ongoing education and develop educational materials for staff pediatricians, residents, and physicians regarding signs and symptoms of abuse and neglect.
  • 5. Provide annual training for the pediatric and emergency departments regarding mandatory reporting requirements and recognition of signs and symptoms of child abuse.
  • 6. Collaborate with our county and community partners to develop a centralized trauma-informed resource for children in foster care to monitor medication practices, school behavior interventions, and school disciplinary practices. These partners include Behavioral Health, Dept. of Family & Children Services (DFCS), Kinship and Foster Parent Association (KAFTA), Juvenile Court, Probation, District Attorney’s Office, County Superintendent of Schools, and Santa Clara County First 5.
  • 7. Represent SCVMC on county-wide organizations who advocate for children’s health and safety, including Santa Clara County Child Abuse Prevention Council (CAPC), the Child Death Review Committee (CDRT), the Cross Agency Service Team (CAST), and others, as appropriate.

About the Department

The Department of Surgery at SCVMC is a large, dynamic department which consists of 9 divisions, including general surgery/trauma, otolaryngology/head and neck, neurosurgery, plastic and reconstructive, urology, ophthalmology, cardiac (thoracic/vascular), podiatry and dental. The department members serve as teaching faculty for Stanford residents in all areas except for podiatry and dental.

About the position

The successful candidate will be the first BC/BE colorectal surgeon to join a robust General Surgery Division. The candidate is expected to provide the spectrum of colorectal surgery care, including: inflammatory bowel disease, colon and rectal cancer, benign anorectal conditions, anoscopy/anal dysplasia, and minimally invasive techniques. The position includes administrative duties which will focus on the development of a colorectal service line, in conjunction with Gastroenterology, Medical Oncology and Radiation Therapy specialists as well as, collaboration with SCVMC’s institutional Tumor Board.

About the Division

Our Division of Urology provides consultative inpatient services and outpatient care for patients with comprehensive urological issues. This is a key training site for Stanford urology residents. There is access to a DaVinci XI surgical robot. The division is currently spearheading the development of a dedicated endourology/stone center. About the Position

Both positions will be located at our community hospital, O’Connor Hospital (OCH) in San Jose, CA.

For the Endourologist: the successful candidate will need to have a California Medical License and Fluoroscopy License. Endourology fellowship is a plus, but not required.p>

About the position

The successful candidate will be a BC/BE family physician who completed an obstetrics fellowship to provide full scope inpatient and outpatient family medicine and obstetrics care. About the Department of Orthopedic Surgery

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center is a multidisciplinary group of surgeons who are committed to caring for patients of Santa Clara County. As an ACS level I center and affiliate site for Stanford residents, education and expert trauma care are central to the department.

About the Position

This position requires BE/BC status with fellowship training in hand and upper extremity. Preferred candidates who are interested in a close working relationship with the inpatient trauma service and building an ortho-plastics hand service. There will be an opportunity to build an elective, outpatient practice.

About the Department of Pediatrics

Our Department of Pediatrics has a busy 36-bed Pediatric Ward, 12-bed PICU, 40-bed level IV NICU, 170,000 outpatient visits per year, and is a key training site for Stanford medical students and pediatrics residents. Physicians who join our Department of Pediatrics are pleased to find a very collegial work environment, with robust specialty and ancillary support and an integrated electronic health record (Epic).

About the position

The successful candidate will have the dedication to work with the underserved population; have board certification in pediatric sleep but is not required; and proficiency in Spanish or Vietnamese but is not required.

Current clinical duties include at least six half day clinics on site and two clinics a month at the satellite clinic in Gilroy. On call duties to be shared with one other provider and consist of mainly phone calls. While on call, provider needs to be within 1 hour away from the main campus in the event of an urgent endoscopy or bedside consult. Additional duties include supervision of a nurse practitioner, managing the endoscopy equipment, managing pediatric sleep studies and the seasonal Synergis clinic.

About the organization

About the Department of Pediatrics

The Pediatric Department at SCVMC serves an ethnically diverse, largely Medi-Cal population at seven clinics and a new hospital. Our Department of Pediatrics has a 36-bed Pediatric Ward, 12-bed PICU, 40-bed level III NICU, 170,000 outpatient visits per year, and is a key training site for Stanford medical students and pediatrics residents. We are a Level II pediatric trauma center and has a strong pediatric rehabilitation program. We have most pediatric subspecialties on site, excluding oncology, cardiac surgery, solid organ transplants and dialysis. Our clinics see patients for well child care, urgent care, and the ongoing management of chronic diseases with on-site laboratory, radiology, and pharmacy facilities.
