Thank you for visiting the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Categorical and Preliminary Internal Medicine Residency website. This page will provide a brief overview of this year’s application process.

For the 2022 ERAS® cycle, our program will participate in the supplemental ERAS application. Please note, this is optional for applicants. You are not required to participate in this program to apply to our residency. We view our participation in this program as helping the UME and GME community make improvements to the residency application process. Please rest assured, however, that every application will be holistically reviewed, regardless of participation in this voluntary program.

If you choose to participate you can use the following link to the AAMC:

Please bookmark the supplemental ERAS application section of the AAMC website to find the latest information, FAQs, and resources.

This supplemental ERAS application will be delivered on a survey platform that is separate from the MyERAS application and must be completed between September 1-30.

One of the biggest challenges a virtual interview season presents is how to let you experience our best feature: the VMC residency family and culture. We have added content to our website and will attempt to recreate our typical interview day virtually, but we know there is still much that cannot be replicated: that ineffable sense of a place - the culture you glean from the interstitial moments of an in-person interview day.  Therefore, in addition to the virtual interview day, we will offer a separate, completely optional, in-person look for candidates invited to interview. Details will be included in your interview invitation. Because we are committed to ensuring equity throughout our interview process, these optional visits will have zero impact on our ranking process, and you will not meet with program leadership during your visit. The optional in-person look will provide an opportunity to spend time with a resident team, attend a case-based educational session, and enjoy some catered noon-conference food.

We know that last year’s virtual interview season resulted in increased stress and uncertainty for medical student applicants. If you have unanswered questions after reviewing our website, I encourage you to reach out directly to me at [email protected]
