Kaklam Wong grew up in Hong Kong and came to the United States at the age of 19.  She went to University of Florida and received the Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1994.  For the following ten years, she enjoyed working as a staff/charge nurse in various health care settings, ranging from long-term care nursing facilities to hospital acute care, as well as outpatient hemodialysis centers. She worked in various states including Florida, Michigan, and Pennsylvania, finally moving to California which she loved the most.  She went back to school and obtained the Master of Science in Nursing at the San Jose State University in 2005, along with a Family Nurse Practitioner certification.
