Our staff is comprised of 5 attending physicians with extensive experience and expertise, and 3 dedicated OTO/HNS nurse practitioners. Attending physicians are doctors who train other doctors. As part of the Stanford University Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery Residency program, we also have 2 residents on rotation with us throughout the year.
ZULAIKHA AKBERY, MSN, FNP – C
Zulaikha has been part of the VMC family since 2009, starting her career as a Hospital Service Assistant (HSA) while finishing her last year as an undergraduate student. She graduated from San Jose State University in 2010 with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing cum laude. After graduation, she worked in a nursing role in Med-Surg/Trauma at VMC for 5 years.
While she loved her job and role as a RN, she wanted to pursue furthering her education and knowledge base. She went on to obtain her Master of Science in Nursing from Holy Names University in 2013. Zulaikha worked at Planned Parenthood as a Nurse Practitioner for a short period prior to joining VMC’s Division of Otolaryngology in 2015. Outside of work she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and going to the park.
Lea Revita Lopez, MSN, APRN, PHN, FNP-C
Lea is a board -certified family nurse practitioner and has been with VMC ENT since 2017. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Ms. Lopez received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing cum laude in 2007 from San Jose State University through the Gordon Betty Moore Scholarship Accelerated Program. She then worked as a Registered Nurse in a trauma and cardiac unit for 9 years. In 2016, she completed her Master of Science in Nursing with honors at the University of Phoenix, Sacramento.

Other experiences as a Nurse Practitioner include urgent care/express care. She plans to go back to school to pursue a Doctorate in Nursing Practice degree. Outside of work, she loves nature, beach, traveling, shopping, cooking, and spending time with family.
Richard Twoy, NP
Richard Twoy joined the VMC Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Division in 2010. Mr. Twoy earned his Master’s degree in Family Nurse Practitioner from San Jose State University. Mr. Twoy enjoys delivering ENT care to both adults and children; he particularly likes connecting with and educating his patients on health maintenance and disease prevention.
Prior to joining Valley Medical Center, Mr. Twoy worked at Indian Health Center in Primary Care and served as Clinical Diabetes Services Coordinator. His nursing skills and experience includes critical care (Intensive Care; Emergency/Trauma), teaching (served as faculty in nursing education) and nursing leadership.
In his leisure time, Mr. Twoy enjoys cooking, swimming and traveling with his family.
Ferri Smith, Au.D
Dr. Ferri Smith, Au.D. earned her BA degree at Mississippi Valley State University in Political Science. She joined the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lieutenant. She returned to school for Speech & Hearing Sciences from The University of New Mexico and her Clinical Doctorate of Audiology degree (Au.D.) from A.T. Still University located in Mesa, AZ in 2008. Dr. Smith is licensed by the state of California and New Mexico and a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CCC-A). She is originally from Ofahoma Mississippi, but she currently lives in San Jose CA.
