Associate Chief, Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation

Dr. Chaw joined the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) department as faculty in 2011, to provide clinical care to the spinal cord injury (SCI) population during inpatient rehabilitation.  In addition to attending on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit (ARU), he also works in the Respiratory Rehabilitation Unit (RRU) which is a specialized multidisciplinary unit focused on ventilator management and weaning.  Dr. Chaw also works in the outpatient setting to follow patients through the continuum of SCI care after discharge from initial inpatient rehabilitation.

    Dr. Crew joined the PM&R department as faculty in 2009. His clinical interests are in Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, Electrodiagnostics, and General Rehabilitation. He provides acute hospital consultations, and also manages patients on the Acute Rehabilitation and Respiratory Rehabilitation Units. Additionally, Dr. Crew performs Electrodiagnostic studies in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. He has helped lead numerous clinical research projects, with a focus on the sequelae of SCI. Dr. Crew has served as a reviewer for several journals and is currently an Associate Editor for the PM&R Journal. Since 2015, he has served as Chair of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Department.

      Dr. Huang joined the PM&R department in 2012, after working as a locum tenens physician across the United States and overseas. Her interests are in Brain Injury Medicine, Musculoskeletal Injuries, Amputee care, Electrodiagnostics, and General Rehabilitation. She is predominantly involved clinically as an attending on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, outpatient PM&R clinic and performing electrodiagnostic studies.

        Dr. Huie joined the PM&R department as faculty in 2012. His interests are in Brain Injury Medicine, Concussion Management, Spasticity Treatment, and General Rehabilitation. He is predominantly involved clinically in providing acute hospital consultations, attending on the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, outpatient PM&R Clinic and performing Ultrasound-guided procedures for Spasticity Treatment. Since 2017, he has served as Chief of Brain Injury Rehabilitation.

          Stephen McKenna, M.D.

          Chief, Respiratory Rehabilitation Unit

          Dr. McKenna joined the PM&R department as faculty in 2005. As a Neurocritical Care physician, he specializes in ventilator dependent Spinal Cord and Traumatic Brain Injury; as well as neuromuscular diseases. Dr. McKenna is the co-chairman of the Research Education Subcommittee for the American Spinal Injury Association. He has led first-in-human clinical trials ranging from vaccines for Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) to stem cell derived oligodendrocyte progenitor cell-based therapies for Spinal Cord Injury.

            Dr. Mian joined the PM&R department in 2018. Her interests include Spinal Cord Injury Medicine and General Rehabilitation. She is mainly focused clinically on the inpatient management of patients on the Acute Rehabilitation and Respiratory Rehabilitation Units. Dr. Mian also performs inpatient consultations for the acute hospital at SCVMC and sees patients in the PM&R outpatient clinic.
