Santa Clara County, CA - Please join Santa Clara Valley Medical Center and the VMC Foundation for a special event with John A. and Susan Sobrato. Signage will be unveiled on the new hospital building – the Sobrato Pavilion.
Construction of the new building is well underway and progressing rapidly. Turner Construction expects to complete their work on the building by June 2017. Following the completion of construction, SCVMC will begin to install equipment; stock supplies on every floor and unit; transition staff and hire new staff; and finalize the move plan. The goal is to move patients into the new building by the end of 2017.
The Sobrato Pavilion is a 370,000 square foot hospital wing. In 2012, John and Sue Sobrato made a record $5 million donation to the VMC Foundation to support the outfitting of the building. At the time, it was the largest donation made by an individual to a public, county hospital in the western United States.
The new wing will house SCVMC’s nationally recognized spinal cord and traumatic brain injury rehabilitation centers, as well as adult intensive and acute care inpatient units. Construction was financed thanks to the 2008 Measure A bond that passed overwhelmingly by Santa Clara County voters to ensure that SCVMC facilities comply with California’s strict earthquake safety laws for hospitals.
