Planning a CME Activity

SCVMC is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

ACCME defines a Regularly Scheduled Series (RSS) as a course that is planned with multiple, ongoing sessions, e.g., offered weekly, monthly, or quarterly; and are primarily planned by and presented to professional staff. RSS examples include grand rounds, tumor boards, and morbidity and mortality conferences. SCVMC, as an accredited CME provider is in compliance with the ACCME accreditation criteria for RSS, live or other educational activities.

The following is a collection of important resources to assist course planners with establishing a Regularly Scheduled Series or Live Educational Activity with the Continuing Medical Education Program at SCVMC.

FAQ on CME Application

What can I do as a CME planner if I missed the deadline of the application and the scheduled date of the CME live activity cannot be deferred?

The CME planner can request an expedited review for the CME committee to review the application.  The expedited review will be granted at the discretion of the CME Chair.  This application will be subject to an expedited fee in addition to the CME administration Fee.

As a CME planner, if I have questions about how to fill out the application form or about compliance to ACCME applications, who should I address my questions to?

Your department CME committee members (the physician representative and the CME administrative representative) are here to address your questions on CME applications and to guide you through the CME applications process.  Please refer to the Guide and Instruction to CME Credits attachment.  If you still have questions after discussing with your department representative, please direct your questions to Cynthia Lopez, CME coordinator or Dr. Anita Sit, CME chair.

As CME planner, what if I cannot obtain all the disclosure documents of all the speakers and planners before the application, can I advertise for CME credits?

No, you cannot advertise your CME activity for CME credits.  All disclosures of planners and speakers are required at the time of the application submission.

As a CME planner, if the CME activity involves commercial support, can I sign a letter of agreement with the commercial party?
