INTERNAL MEDICINE RESIDENCY

Meet the Chairman

Welcome to our Residency Program’s Website. Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Hospital and Clinics is in the heart of Silicon Valley and provides an outstanding opportunity to learn Internal medicine in a Public Hospital closely affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine. Each month the interns and residents from both institutions staff the internal medicine wards at our Hospital, the University Program, and the Veteran’s Hospital in Palo Alto. Our 185 full time faculty are an outstanding group of Clinician Educators who are dedicated to our department’s vision of leading healthcare through compassion, education and innovation. Students, residents, and fellows from Stanford Medical School consistently rank their experience at our Public Hospital as an outstanding location for student education.

Our residents are superbly trained in all aspects of inpatient and outpatient Internal Medicine and master all the procedural skills unique to the specialty. In addition to clinical training, our residents have the opportunity to focus more deeply in our Pathways program and develop their teaching and leadership skills under the mentorship of our highly esteemed faculty. Excellence in teaching and Scholarship are promoted through participation in our Evidence Based Medicine Curriculum and presentation of a Senior Resident Medical Grand Rounds. Residents are encouraged to develop research interests during their training, and many have been recognized for excellence at the American College of Physicians regional and national meetings. Our residents are actively recruited for clinical positions in both hospital and primary care medicine and many go on to Fellowship training at prestigious institutions. We welcome your interest in our program and encourage you to explore more about this unique opportunity.
